Paintings, Summer, et Cetera

by on May.21, 2006, under Art, College, Life, News

Well.

I put paintings from the spring semester in a new album in the gallery. They are all there, even though some of them aren’t worth looking at. There are detail shots of some paintings on later pages.

I realized the writing here took a bit of an informal turn when I started posting while sleep deprived during said semester. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, but it happened.

Developments: It looks like I will be finishing my C.S. degree after all. I should be graduating next spring if all goes according to plan. Authorities on the matter generally concur that this is a good thing.

I wish I had time to take more drawing and painting classes before I graduate, and it would be nice to try my hand at sculpture and printmaking. However, I will need to focus academically on C.S. this last year, and develop a strong 3d portfolio outside of classes. Currently I am trying to figure out just what my ‘strong 3d portfolio’ will entail. I intend to focus on modeling this summer, and probably move into rigging and animation in fall and spring.

I am making some kind of promise to myself to experiment with other media in the future.

Lastly, there is a diminutive human in Wellington, Florida. Her name is Kacey, and she is awesome.

So I just spent about 45 minutes ‘hacking’ into the user database for Textpattern because i couldn’t remember my password. So. That was dumb. BUT I’M IN NOW.

Um… I haven’t written in a long time. A few things of note… Firstly, it has come to my attention that I’m a lot stupider than I used to be. This has probably come to my attention before as well, and the fact that I’m bringing it up again or think that it’s a novel concept is further evidence of my worsening condition.

I want to start doing a drawing every day. I doubt that will happen. I should take responsibility for my own actions. I frequently say “hopefully I’ll do [insert random productive/important thing].” It’s up to me though. So I really should just say I’ll do stuff, then do it. Time is a ridiculous thing. And so am I.

Um. Henceforth all paragraphs may very well start with ‘um.’ Capitalized of course. It’s 3:34 a.m. and I’m in the animation lab on campus. At least that’s what the computer says. It’s probably really only about 3:26, but it may very well be 3:34 by the time I finish typing this post. This was a worthless paragraph.

So I’m modeling a frog for my thesis project that isn’t really my thesis project. By which I mean that the project extends beyond thesis and that I never planned on finishing said project before the end of the term. It is mildly cool, and I am trying to put a lot of detail into it, but it is kind of taking forever which indicates to me that I kind of suck a lot.

Upcoming: conceptual self-portrait for painting. Possibly featuring frog legs and monkey feet.

Upcoming: finished frog.

Upcoming: A slightly miserable day because I won’t have slept and won’t have accomplished anything.

Upcoming: most likely an unfavorable instructor response to my idea for my self portrait. If you can even call it that.

Upcoming: more phrases preceded by the word ‘Upcoming.’

I lied.

Flight info and a veritable smorgasbord of crappy web interfaces

by on Aug.14, 2005, under Life, News, Travel

So in an earlier post, I mentioned that there was no address bar in the incarnation of IE in the school library where I was taking classes for the past two weeks in Scotland. Or at least alluded to this fact[. But I was okay with that, because it was better than nothing, free, and I found a workaround quick enough. But now I am in a hostel in London, paying for time, and this thing… it’s ridiculous. The keyboard is like buttons instead of keys, with quarter-inch spaces between them, and requiring substantially more pressure and concentrated effort to type with any semblance of normal speed. But worse than that is the browser… there’s an address bar this time, but it doesn’t seem to “support” multiple or popup windows. Or Java. And there’s no AIM client… it’s ridiculous. Here I am trying to waste a little time in London and I can’t even do it successfully.

So if any of the my comrades read this and you guys haven’t forgotten that I exist and would be kind enough to pick me up from the airport, I should be getting in on Tuesday at 4:40pm on Virgin Atlantic Flight 15.

I have so many stories to tell. Well, one, really. Here’s the gist of it: my foot hurts, and I am an idiot. Let’s all cross our fingers and hope that I didn’t fracture my right calcaneus. Or talus. Or any of them really.
